Avrupa ve Amerika’da Eğitim Tarihi Yazımı ve Eğitim Tarihinin Akademik Bir Alan Olarak Gelişimi Üzerine Bazı Düşünceler

Tarih, akademik bir disiplin olarak diğer bütün bilimlerden farklı bir noktada durmaktadır. Temel bilimler olarak adlandırılan fen bilimleri maddi gelişme, teknolojik ilerleme açısından oldukça önemli olmasına karşın tarih, toplumsal şuur, ulus bilinci, sosyalizasyon açısından veya başka bir ifade ile ulus oluşturma sürecinde oldukça güçlü bir etken olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Belki de bu özelliğinin erken keşfedilmesinden dolayı ulus devletlerin oluşum süreci aslında bir tür tarih kurgusu oluşturma süreci olarak da tanımlanabilir. Tarihin böyle bir rolünün olması onu diğer disiplinlerden daha farklı bir konuma ulaştırmaktadır. Dolayısıyla, tarihin nasıl yazılacağı, hangi boyutların tarihin içine alınacağı ve nelerin alınmayacağı veya tarihsel olayın nasıl anlaşılması gerektiği profesyonel tarihçilerin ve tarih felsefecilerinin temel problemlerinden biri olmuştur. Benzer bir durum eğitim tarihi açısından da geçerlidir. Ulusların kültürel geçmişinin bir hülasası olan eğitim tarihi toplumun kültürel ve sosyal boyutunun gelişme çizgisini betimleyen önemli bir çalışma alanıdır. Bu çalışma, toplumsal yapının esasını oluşturan kültürün geçmişten şimdiye ve oradan geleceğe uzanan gelişim çizgisini gösteren eğitim tarihinin yazımına ve bu yazımın mahiyetine odaklanmıştır. Bu kapsamda çalışmanın amacı Avrupa ve Amerika bağlamında eğitim tarihi yazımı ve eğitim tarihinin akademik bir alan olarak gelişim sürecini değerlendirmektir.
